Now or Never + Things I Learned About Starting Anything New

Russian/Русский

It’s here! After years of talking about it, my blog is finally here! I cannot tell you how excited I am for this! It is still work in progress and it will definitely take some time for this project to mature (and we all know there is no limit to perfection) but one of the things that I finally realized is that it’s now or never.

I kept procrastinating, finding a million excuses to why it’s not ready yet but the truth is there is no such thing as perfect time. A part of me still protests as I type this but it is what it is. How many times have you wanted to do something but doubts, fear or laziness would tell you it’s not the time, let’s wait till next Monday and then suddenly it’s next Wednesday and nothing have changed? Well, it happened way too many times to me and I am ready to take the next step.

First of all, this blog is going to be bilingual, all my posts in Russian can be found under category Russian. No Google Translate button for me, as long as I have time to keep writing in both languages, I will, as I really do appreciate cultural references, context and humor that no button can translate.

Second, please make sure to check my About page where you will learn more about me and the blog.

In the meantime, here in my first post I would like to share with you a few things that I learnt about starting anything new:

  • It doesn’t have to be perfect right away

If you know exactly what to do and how, good for you! Keep doing what you’re doing.  For most of us, however, wanting things to be perfect really stops them from happening. We put so much pressure on ourselves when instead of overthinking we just need to start doing. It’s so simple and yet we forget that babies don’t just start walking right as they’re born, you don’t start speaking foreign language if you never heard it before, and million other things that take time to learn. So take your time, learn, I have a feeling that it is going to be much more exciting when you can share your progress and milestones with others rather than being lonely Mr. Know-It-All.

  • Life begins at the end of your comfort zone

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you”. “If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got”. There are many more motivational quotes on Pinterest alone, but you get the point, right? Only when we are challenged and thrown out of our comfort zone we truly grow into better version of ourselves. Starting anything new as much as it is exciting could be scary but it will all be worth it in the end. Whether you succeed or fail, you will at least get the experience and hopefully, will learn from it.

  • Once you started, keep going

As much as we all want everything to start happening as soon we made a decision, it does take time for things to actually happen, as long as you keep working on it. The key is to be consistent. That’s definitely something I myself still need to work on. It is so inspiring to see a person put at least a little bit of effort everyday and then every note learned becomes a song, every new word turns into a story, every push up makes you stronger. Remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, be patient and determined and everything will work out the way you want to or even better.

New Year is just around the corner, and even though there is objectively no perfect time, the beginning of the year seems to be the most popular one to be starting anything new and making those resolutions. What do you want to do? What is it that you have wanted to do and now the time has come? Please share your ideas in comments and let’s do it! Good luck!

P.S. If you noticed any problems in navigation, commenting or any other bugs on this site, please let me know, I am still learning:)
